On their way to the title, the Dirk Nowitzki-led 2011 Mavs have beaten teams led by: LaMarcus Aldridge, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James (self.nba)
Okay, okay, one is not like the others. LaMarcus Aldridge is not a Nike superstar. But dang. Getting the head of those three. It's like The Evolution. An a tad older Kobe, a prime LeBron and a younger KD. 9 rings, 6 MVPs, 6 Finals MVPs in between them -- and counting. Remarkable feat. Caron Butler didn't even play in the playoffs. Superteam!

Probably the only time I rooted as hard as I did for a team that wasn't my own. I wanted Dirk to get that title so bad

It was the perfect storm of a loveable superstar going up against public enemy #1 in LeBron James and the heat.

Not only Dirk, but I'm pretty sure it was Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Tyson Chandler, Jason Terry, Peja Stojakovic, Shawn Marion, and Caron Butler's first time getting a title also. Loved seeing all those vets come together to finally win one.
Looking at the staff they also had Terry Stotts and Dwayne Casey as assistants also. What a team.

That's less impressive than saying they beat the Heatles, OKC big three, and Back-to-back defending champions.

Who coined the term Heatles? Is Mario Chalmers Ringo?

I think it was LeBron so you'd have to go to him for all of your Heatles lore

"I see we sell out 99.1 percent on the road, so we call ourselves the Heatles off the Beatles, so every time we take our show on the road we bring a great crowd"
and FWIW if they're really the Heatles then those players will stop playing in front of live audiences any day now

The craziest part of that run is that the Mavericks were picked by many to lose to the Blazers in the first round. We were considered a dark horse to make a deep run in the playoffs.
That was also the series that crippled Brandon Roy lead that epic comeback after being down like 20 at the end of the 3rd. Greatest Blazers game I have ever seen.

We did almost lose that series to y'all though. Then something happened. I don't know what exactly it was but after game 2 or 3 something clicked and we were an entirely different team for the rest of the playoffs.
We also saw that happen to the 2014 Spurs when we, as an 8 seed, took them to a game 7. In the last game something clicked with them and they fucking murdered us on the way to their title.

Yeah, it was right after that Roy game. Which is impressive, because a lot of teams would have been demoralized after a collapse like that. Instead, the Mavs turned it up and went on a run.

So many experts picked us to lose in each round. Proving them wrong every step of the way made the run that much sweeter.

It's funny because, aside from the Heat, those Aldridge-Blazers gave the Mavs their biggest fight.
Probably my favorite playoff run, will always love Dirk for that.
真有意思，因为除了热火以外，给小牛造成最大 麻 烦的居然是阿尔德里奇带领的开拓者。

That series was Brandon Roy's last great moment as a Blazer

Lol someone a couple weeks ago on here tried to tell me that Dirk's performance was 'decent' in the Finals series vs the Heat. Fuckin greenthumbs.

He was a beast up until the actual last game, in which he went ice cold. His teammates stepped up big time though and they clinched the title.

Dirk was a beast throughout the playoffs -- and perhaps especially against OKC, a series in which Durant and Dirk both performed memorably -- but that last game was Jason terry fulfilling the bicep tattoo prophecy.
In elimination games against Portland, Lakers, and Miami the JET shot .563, .786 (!), and .688 respectively (on high volume). He deserves a ton of credit for the title, too.

The Mavs championship run was one of the most amazing I've seen. The Lakers were a great team that year and had a healthy Bynum and got shut down. I think between that and the win over Miami makes it one of the most impressive runs in NBA history.
As soon as they beat the Lakers the way they did, I knew they were going to win the championship. If the Lakers won that series I think it would have been Heat Lakers in a seven game series, but when the Mavs beat them the way they did I knew it was their year.
